Hi everyone! My name is Phoebe Brodrick and I am serving as the Lake Burton Civic Association's social media intern this summer! Originally from Watkinsville, GA, I now attend Georgia College & State University where I study marketing and will begin my senior year in the fall. I also serve as the president of the Marketing and Advertising Club there. When I'm not studying or working, you can find me at the lake reading a good book, hiking, or playing pickleball with friends. I am excited to work with this amazing organization this summer!

Meet Our Intern Carlie Crane
Hi, my name is Carlie Crane! I will be the videography intern for the Lake Burton Civic Association this summer. I am a rising third-year, Film Production major and Graphic Design minor at Piedmont University and a Rabun County High Graduate. I hope to pursue a career in editing after graduation. My family is from Rabun County, and we have spent a lot of time on or around Lake Burton during our summers. Getting this opportunity to do real work as a videographer and editor in my hometown is such an honor. I can’t wait to build my experience in my career field while also working for my community. I am excited to meet everyone this summer and capture all the fun created by the Lake Burton community!

Water Safety Day June 1
Water Safety Day: Your Chance to Speak with DNR!
Morning Session
From 9 to 11 am, at the LaPrades Pavilion, we offer our members a unique opportunity. Representatives of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will conduct a boating and water safety meeting. This is your rare chance to meet the DNR officers who patrol the lake, hear from them about their experiences, and ask them questions. We value your safety, and this meeting is a testament to that.
This meeting is of utmost importance for all members. It is the first time LBCA has offered such a meeting, and it's a direct response to the high number of tickets handed out last year. The DNR suggested we offer it to help offset these incidents. Your active participation and education are the keys to lowering these incidents and making our community safer. 9TH ANNUAL LAKE CLEANUP A RESOUNDING SUCCESS
The Lake Burton Civic Association (LBCA) hosted its 9th Annual Cleanup the Lake Day on Friday, May 10, witnessing an impressive turnout of over 50 volunteers from the local community. The event was a testament to the community’s commitment, with participants successfully removing a significant amount of trash and debris, equivalent to a full dumpster, from the cherished Lake Burton.
“The Lake Burton Civic Association’s ninth annual Lake Clean Up Day was a smashing success with 15 boats and over 50 volunteers partnering with a team from Georgia Power to clean debris from every area of the lake!” said Yolanda Adrean, LBCA Water Quality Chair. “Special thanks to the many Clayton Rotarians who came also came out to team up with us. Thanks go out to all who made a commitment to help keep Lake Burton Clean and clear of hazardous debris.”
The cleanup was a true community effort, with dedicated volunteers from the LBCA, the Clayton Rotary Club, and a team from Georgia Power. Georgia Power’s contribution was particularly significant, as it provided a barge and essential equipment and even treated the volunteers to a well-deserved Chick-fil-A lunch.
The event was a testament to Lake Burton residents’ deep commitment to preserving their lake’s natural beauty. By removing a significant amount of trash and debris, the volunteers revitalized the lake’s splendor and safeguarded the local wildlife and recreational activities. The cleanup’s success underscored the community’s power and the crucial role of environmental stewardship.
5th Annual Wooden Boat Parade & Show
Lake Burton, nestled in the heart of Rabun County, Georgia, invites you to the Fifth Annual Wooden Boat Parade and Show on Sunday, May 26. As the Georgia Legislature officially designated Rabun County as the “Wooden Boat Capital of Georgia,” this event is not just a celebration but a testament to the rich heritage and craftsmanship of these floating masterpieces. With its unique design and history, each boat is a living testament to the art of boat building.
Hosted by the Lake Burton Civic Association (LBCA), this free, family-friendly event is not just a show but an opportunity to witness the charm and craftsmanship of these historical watercraft up close. The parade starts at 11 am. A fleet of around 30 vintage wooden boats, built between 1930 and 1970, begin in Timpson Cove and are led by the iconic Burton One Fireboat. The procession will go to LaPrade’s Marina, where the boats will be moored and open for public viewing around 12:30 pm.
“These boats are truly floating works of art,” says Andrew Harris, LBCA board member and parade founder. “We invite everyone to come and appreciate the beauty and heritage of these remarkable vessels.”
LaPrade’s Marina, located at 25 Shoreline Trail, Clarkesville, GA 30523, will be the perfect backdrop for this captivating display. Visitors can admire the intricate details and craftsmanship that went into preserving these treasures from a bygone era.
Chase Fulbright, chairman of the wooden boat parade committee, heads this special event. Fulbright has owned his wooden boat, “Dawg Days,” for eight years. He has participated in the parade for all four years, last year being his first as chairman.
“My first year as chairman was a great experience,” said Fulbright. We have a good group of boat owners who have been a lot of fun to work with.” He is excited to return the parade to Lake Burton for its fifth year.
